Ways to Reduce Sciatic Pain

If you've ever experienced sciatic pain, you know how bad it can be, especially if it's chronic. Pressure on the sciatic nerve from a herniated disc or a lower back condition may cause radiating pain in your back, buttocks, and down your leg. Sleeping, sitting, and standing may all become very uncomfortable, and you may not be able to go about your daily activities. The good news is there are some simple remedies that can help with the pain so you don't have to suffer anymore. Here are five ways to reduce sciatic pain.

  1. Acupuncture— An ancient remedy, acupuncture is an alternative therapy that uses needles to reduce pain. It's a good idea to check in with your doctor before getting acupuncture, especially if you have other health problems.
  2. Yoga — Gentle yoga or stretching can help sciatic sufferers greatly. By loosening tight muscles and getting into certain poses, you can become more flexible. Talk to a yoga instructor to avoid certain poses that may aggravate your condition.
  3. Chiropractic Care — Many sufferers find relief by getting adjustments at the chiropractor. You may need to visit a few times a week to see results, but it's worth it if it helps. Spinal manipulation may restore normal mobility to the painful area if done consistently.
  4. Topical Relief  — There are many natural products on the market that may help relieve pain.  Milkweed Balm is made with natural, organic, and GMO-free ingredients and may help promote bone, joint, and muscle health.
  5. Massage — A visit to the spa for a relaxing massage might not do the trick, but a trigger-point massage may reduce inflammation. When done correctly, the masseuse will apply pressure to irritated areas in the lower back and glutes to relieve pain. If there is no progress after a few visits, you should try a different therapy.

The severity of your symptoms will determine the best course of action for relief. You can also look into exercise regimens and physical therapy as an option. Other more invasive procedures like steroids and surgery should be a last resort if symptoms persist and are debilitating. Don't wait until your sciatic pain disrupts your life. Do something about it today.
